Use-Your-Next-Workout-to-Practice-Gratitude-Class-A-FitnessThere are many ways and reasons to practice gratitude. If you don’t have much experience with a gratitude practice, this might be the year to start. We’ve all faced challenges and uncertainties over the past few months. And taking a few minutes to reflect on what you can be grateful for goes a long way in shifting your mindset in a more positive direction.

If you’re new to practicing gratitude, sometimes it’s helpful to start by finding things to be grateful for in an area of your life you’re very familiar with. Like, your workouts.

Here are a few ways that you can use your next workout to practice gratitude:

1. Be grateful for what you can do instead of focusing on what you can’t.

One way to practice gratitude during your next workout is by focusing on what you can do rather than what you can’t. Be grateful for the things that your body can do! If there are things in a workout that you’re not able to do, reflect on these things, and consider creating goals around them. For example, you might not be able to do a pushup on your toes or an unassisted pullup. But you can do pushups on your knees or TRX rows. Be grateful for what you’re able to do now, and then set some goals for the future.

2. Remind yourself that your body is something worth taking care of.

When your body finishes a challenging, high-intensity workout, appreciate the hard work you put into that class. And then remind yourself that your body is worth taking care of. To keep a consistent workout routine, take care of your body. Stay well-hydrated, get plenty of nutritious “fuel,” and get as much quality sleep as your body needs.

3. Use gratitude to replace comparison and self-doubt.

Another way to practice gratitude during your next workout is to use feelings of appreciation to replace comparison and self-doubt. If you find yourself wishing that you were stronger, thinner, or more fit, replace these negative thoughts with gratitude. Find something to focus on that highlights the strength and fitness you have now. And be grateful for the opportunity to continue improving in the future as you work toward your personal fitness goals.
